Walter J. "Walt" Russell, 85, of Waverly, NY passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Elderwood at Waverly with his family by his side. He was born on March 6, 1930 at home in Liberty Township, Susquehanna, PA the son of the late Clarke E. Russell and L. Hilda Johnson Russell. Walt was employed at Agway for 44 years as a truck driver and later became the driver supervisor. Walt also worked for State Line Auto Auction as driver after he retired from Agway in 1992. Walt attended the Athens Wesleyan Church for many years and then became a member at the Chemung Christian Fellowship. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and farming. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed watching them on TV and was a Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles which he did in a unique way by doing the outside and working his way into the middle. He is predeceased his wife Nancy Russell in 2012, sister and brother-in-law Sallie and William Emmons, and brother-in-law Arthur Beasley. Walter is survived by his children James and Estelita Russell of Port Richey, FL, Kathleen and John Dutton of Waverly, NY and David and Terry Russell of Sayre, PA; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson, brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Delores Russell of Liberty, NY, sister Joella Beasley of FL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family may call on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 10-11am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 11am with the Pastor Randy Stilson officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Hallstead, PA.
