David E. Vaughn, 88, of Sayre, PA passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at home with his family by his side following an extended illness. He was born on November 24, 1927 in Mehoopany, PA, the son of the late Edward M. and Hilda C. Fenton Vaughn. Born and raised in the Mehoopany, PA area, David and his wife's romance began in elementary school. They were married in Montrose, PA and it was in Mehoopany that Dave and Lois raised their daughter Penny and sons Steve, Dave and Tim. A number of grandchildren and great grandchildren ensued. Dave and Lois operated a dairy farm in Mehoopany until 1962. Soon after Dave began a long career with IBM and the couple relocated to Sayre, PA where they currently reside. Dave retired from IBM in 1989 as a senior technical writer and editor. Following Dave's retirement the couple became involved in missionary work through church in the form of disaster relief for hurricane victims in South Carolina and Florida. Dave and his wife enjoyed RVing for a number of years, traveling around the Northeast and eventually spending some of the cold months in Florida and Texas. Dave and Lois were instrumental in founding the Penn-York Chapter of Habitat for Humanity where Dave was acting as Executive Director. He was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church for approximately 50 years and Habitat for Humanity was his passion in his later years. He is predeceased by his son Stephen Edward in 2013, and sister in law Jane Vaughn. David is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years Lois at home, children Penny Vaughn Natali of Furlong, PA, David and Karen Vaughn of Horseheads, NY and Timothy and Gloria Vaughn of Lolo, MT; grandchildren Jennifer, Jill, Heather, Jessica, Matthew and Isabella; 8 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; brother Robert C. Vaughn of Palm Harbor, FL and Daughter in law Diane Vaughn of Palos Verdes, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 11am-1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will be follow at the funeral home at 1pm with the Rev. Andrew Weidner officiating. Burial will be in Vaughn Cemetery, Mehoopany, PA at the convenience of the family.
