Alvin Harry Orso, 66, of Sayre, PA passed away on March 13, 2016 at home with his family by his side following his brave fight with cancer. He was born on June 6, 1949 the son of the late Lewis William McKinley and Heartha (Ribble) Orso. Alvin was a Veteran of the US Army and retired in 2009 after 24 years from the US Army Reserves. He was employed as a Truck Driver for Stroehmann Bakeries for 37 years, prior to retiring. Alvin was a member of the Hook and Ladder Fire Department, Waverly, NY. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved entertaining his grandchildren by telling them his famous scary stories. Alvin enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and he loved to cook. He is predeceased by his brothers Gerald Orso and Leroy Orso and sister Linda Morgan. Alvin is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Linda Shermer Orso at home, children Julie and Eric Ambrose of Sayre, PA, Lynn and Marty Schutt of Waverly, NY, Jennifer and Carson Hinds of Athens, PA, and Susan Grace and Derrick Wilkins of Elmira, NY, 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Lewis and Bonnie Orso of Catalina, AZ, sister and brother-in-law Geraldine and Mike Martz of Savona, NY and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 6pm-8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 8pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Alvin’s memory to: Jay E.
