Obituary of Herman Paul Bentley

H. Paul Bentley of Athens, PA, passed away on March 25, 2016 with his family by his side at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on December 2, 1926 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Ernest and Emma Paul Bentley. Paul was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He graduated from Waverly High School. After graduation, Paul worked at the Ingersoll Rand in Athens as an Assemblyman for more than 30 years before retiring in 1988. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports but was an avid fan of the NY Mets, Syracuse Basketball, and Notre Dame Basketball. One of his favorite past times was spending time with his son, Jeff, watching their favorite teams and enjoying a meal at many different sports bars in the area. His grandchildren even got him interested in watching Hockey. He married the former Dolores Schlier in 1955 and one of their best times together was their trip to Ireland. They couple celebrated 56 years of marriage together prior to her passing in 2011. He is predeceased by his wife Dolores Bentley, brothers Ernest, Robert, Wilen and Lawrence Bentley, and his sisters Pauline Hunsinger and Laura Stewart. Paul is survived by his son Jeffrey Paul Bentley of Athens, PA, and his daughter and son-in-law Shelley and Raymond Northrup of Sayre, PA. Also surviving are his 3 grandsons, Scott, Zachary, and Benjamin Northrup of Sayre, PA. Respecting Paul's wishes, there will be a private graveside service at the convenience of his family. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA. Memorial contributions should be made to the charity of ones choice in memory of Paul Bentley.
