Donald "Don" G. Simon, 63, of Towanda, PA passed away peacefully at home with his loving sister and caregiver, Nancy J. Simon by his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 27, 1952 in Perth Amboy, NJ, the son of the late Peter Simon, Jr. and Ruth Pierson. Don was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1972 – 1976, and in so doing got to "see the world." He worked and lived on Martha's Vineyard, MA. He worked as a Carpenter/Mason and a Maintenance Worker. Moving to Pennsylvania in 1998, he worked at a sawmill in Wysox, Pa and Bee Clean Car Wash. Don enjoyed working, no matter what it was he was doing. He loved spending time outdoors, nature, and all animals, especially watching birds. There was not a bird that he couldn't name and identify no matter where he was. He enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetable, was an avid science fiction fan of movies and television. He also enjoyed playing cards and his video games. Donald is survived by his beloved sister Nancy Simon, who came to be his caretaker from Trinity, NC, aunts Carolyn Pierson of Toms River, NJ and Ruth Simon of South Amboy, NJ, cousins Donna, Pam, Gail, Jane and her son, Walter, Kevin, Anthony and his children, Patrick and his children, Lauren, Jennifer, and Gary. He is also survived by his lifetime friend Faith Edmundson and several close friends. Family and friends are invited to a gathering to celebrate Don's life on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Fairfield Inn, 1248 Golden Mile, Towanda, PA from 1pm to 3pm. At 3pm there will be a time of Remembrance and Sharing by those in attendance. The family is being assisted Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
