Virginia Johnson, of Athens, PA, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. She was born on May 22, 1932 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Esmond and Delphine Vanderpool Johnson. Virginia was a self-employed housekeeper. She was a member of the Keystone Baptist Church, Sayre. Virginia loved cooking, especially on holidays for her family. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia loved watching the Lawrence Welk and Polka shows. She enjoyed dancing, especially the Polka, and was a very talented Yodeler. She babysat for many years for many of the local Valley children. She is predeceased by her husband Clifford Johnson in March of 1999, son William Stranger in 1992, daughter Virginia Johnson in 1952, sisters Beatrice Gillespie, Louise Mosier, Hazel Elliot, Arlene Vanderpool, Gladys Merritt, and Bernetta Ellis, and brothers Esmond Johnson, Jr., Alfred Johnson, Sherman Johnson, Carl Johnson, and Cecil Johnson. Virginia is survived by her children JoAnne and John Vargason of Sayre, PA, Bonnie and James Welch of Athens, PA, and Judy and Guy DeWitt of Sayre, PA, grandchildren Richard and Cyndi Johnson, Eric Vargason, Jonathan and Sarah Vargason, Ethan and Roni Vargason, Amanda and Edwin Morse, Erin Kelly, Harley Welch, Jamie Welch, Chelsea DeWitt,Tyler DeWitt, and Ben Stranger, great-grandchildren Maddox, Kaiden, Jacinda, Zack, Ashlynn, Brielle, and 2 great-grandchildren she was looking forward to meeting, great-great-grandchildren Kayden and Zelaina, sister Berneita Wright of Sayre, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 12pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 2pm. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
