Obituary of Henrietta Simonis
Henrietta R. "Cookie" Simonis, 91, of Litchfield, PA passed away on Saturday, November 03, 2012 at Ashton after a period of declining health.
She was born on August 1, 1921 in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late Bernard T. and Henrietta (Gwendolyn) Lordon Cook.
Henrietta worked as a telephone operator in Flordia and in an airplane factory in California. She met Richard P. Simonis and married him on August 22, 1946 at the Navy Base in Quonset Point Rhode Island. After Richard was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Denville, New Jersey where they lived for 28 years and had 11 children. They moved to Litchfield, PA in 1975. They were married for 55 years when Richard died on June 19, 2002. While they lived here Henrietta volunteered with the Penn York Opportunity Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and Litchfield Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. Henrietta enjoyed spending time with her family and she traveled with her husband to the different Pearl Harbor Survivors Associations. .
She is predeceased by her husband Richard P. Simonis, son Bartholomew Simonis, grandson Jacob Simonis, and sisters Doris Wortman and Evelyn McDermott.
Henrietta is survived by her children Rose Marie and John Thompson of New Port Richie, FL, Peter and Chae Simonis of Long Pond, PA, Paul Simonis of Lake Hapacong, NJ, Patricia and Jerry Brown of Greensburg, LA, Jacquelin Siewell of Myrtle Beach, SC, Michael and Linda Simonis of Denville, NJ, Gerard and Pearl Simonis of Litchfield, PA, Andrew and Cheryl Simonis of Newton, NJ, Ann and Lee Hartjen of Cobleskill, NY, and Philip Simonis of Lake Hapacong, NJ, 30 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 5great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA at 10:00am with the Rev. Vincent Langan officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
