Obituary of Harold Shoemaker
Harold "Rip" A. Shoemaker, 87, of Athens, PA, formerly of Phoenixville, PA, and formerly of Athens, PA, passed away on November 22, 2012.
He was born on February 26, 1925 in Towanda, PA, the son of Arthur and Lucille Eilenberger Shoemaker.
Harold worked as a Draftsman for 30 years with General Electric in Valley Forge, PA. He was a Veteran of the US Army and served during WWII. Harold was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening, and loved to travel. He was a member of the ELKS, V.F.W. Skiff-Bower Post #1536, American Legion Post #246, and the WWII Memorial Friends Organization.
He is predeceased by his first wife Joyce McCloskey Shoemaker, and grandsons Alan Mowery and James T. Watson.
Harold is survived by his wife Joan Tuttle Shoemaker, children Barbara Kline (Doug) Achuff of Pottstown, PA, Karl Shoemaker of Phoenixville, PA, Kristy-Jo (Monty) Croman of Harrisburg PA, Karen (Eugene) Mowery of Holtwood, PA, Kurtis (Marilyn) Shoemaker of Omaha, NE, Jane (James) Watson of Sayre, PA, Ann (Les) Freeman of Granville Summit, PA, and Timothy (Karen) Tuttle of Greene, NY, seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, sister Ruth Evans of Nichols, NY, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA following the Memorial Service.
