Obituary of Helena Stranger
Helena "June" Stranger, 88, a longtime resident of the Valley passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours on Wednesday, November 28, 2012.
Helena was born June 28, 1924 in Laquin, PA a daughter of the late Leslie L. and Grace M. Myers Saxon. Helena was reunited with her late husband Robert Stranger, Jr. and brothers Melvin, Derwood, and Sherman Saxon.
Helena is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Jack (Joyce) Stranger of Lehighton, PA, Leslie Stranger of Athens, PA, Donald (Kay) Stranger of Franklindale, PA, Gary Stranger of Dania, FL, daughters and sons-in-law Deborah (John) Sparks of Davie, FL, Raymeta Brennan of Kershaw, SC, and Barbara (Tom) Lambert of Athens, PA, grandchildren Mary Carroll, Amber Lane, Andrea Johnson, Ashley Lambert, Penny Zimmerman, Lori Stranger, Robert Stranger, Dale Stranger, Donald Stranger, Jr., Donette Stranger, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, sister Doris VanWormer, and sister-in-law Betty Saxon.
Helena was very active in the community up until her retirement. She was past President of the Athens American Legion Auxiliary Post #1536, past President of the Honest Horsethieves Auxiliary, and Manager of the Sayre Senior Center. Helena enjoyed ceramics and painting. She made a special Christmas Village for her daughter. Helena enjoyed being a professional clown known as "Lollipop" going to the hospitals and nursing homes cheering up the sick and elderly.
Friends and family may call on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 11am - 1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the Funeral Home at 1pm with the Rev. Nelson Kopatz from the Athens First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
