Obituary of Floyd Hakes

Floyd L. Hakes, 79, of Beaver Dams, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at home following an extended illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 24, 1933 in New Albany, PA the son of the late Thomas and Mary Talada Hakes. Floyd served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army as a Corporal E3. He worked 44 years at Anchor Glass, retiring in 1995. He loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed junking cars with his sons. Floyd loved to travel. He is predeceased by his loving son Andy P. Hakes August 25, 2005, 4 brothers, 1 sister, and his dog Rover. Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Eleanor B. Hakes at home, children Ted L. (Trish) Hakes of FL, Kenneth A. Hakes of Beaver Dams, NY, Raymond T. (Margorie) Hakes of Breesport, NY, Wendy M. (Roger) Youmans of Beaver Dams, NY, grandchildren Ted, Jr., Shannon, Andy, Jr., Jackie, Jessica, Rachel, Alyssa, Nathan, Stacey, Kelvin, Starr, Duane, several great-grandchildren, sisters Margaret Gleckner and Alberta Ziats, several nieces and nephews, and his cat Mowmow. Tremendous Thanks to special friend and neighbors Kim and Curt Smith. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. Memorial donations may be made in Floyd’s memory to: The American Cancer Society, 1948 East Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
