Obituary of Arthur Dunham
Arthur H. "Curly" Dunham, 87, of Sayre, PA passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Highland Care Center, LaPorte, PA.
He was born on June 12, 1924 in Wyalusing, PA the son of the late Arthur H., Sr. and Helen Benjamin Dunham.
Arthur attended Wyalusing Schools where he played baseball and basketball. In his senior year, Arthur moved to Sayre and graduated from Sayre High School, class of 1943. After his graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served during WWII in the North Atlantic. Upon returning home, he was employed with Tioga Mills in Waverly, NY, retiring after 33 years in 1979. On July 6, 1951, he married the former Leona Welton. After returning from the service, Arthur enjoyed playing baseball with the V.F.W. and various other valley teams, playing country music on his steel guitar and Dobro, working on his home, hunting and fishing. He was a strong, loving, and caring family man. Arthur was a life member of Skiff-Bower Post #1536 V.F.W., Sayre, PA, a member of L.O.O.M., Waverly, NY, and a member of American Federation of Grain Millers.
He is predeceased by his sisters Ethel Chamberlain and Alice Alpaugh, two nephews Fred and Harry Alpaugh, and niece Patricia Kelley.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 60 years Leona at home, three daughters and sons-in-law Jolie and William Lee of Sayre, PA, Terri and Curtis Tiffany of Round Rock, TX, and Randa and Richard Angelo of New Windsor, MD, grandchildren Heidi, Tiffani, Michelle, Chris, John, and Melissa, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Inez Irish of Dansville, NY and Thelma Stauffer of Dansville, NY and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Pat and Mary Wakefield.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10:30am at the Waverly First Baptist Church, 23 Tioga Street, Waverly, NY with the Rev. Steven Reynolds officiating. Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA is assisting the family.
Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
