Obituary of Susan Sackett

Susan Kay McNeal Sackett passed away quietly with her family and friends at her side at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, NY on Sunday, January 6, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Susan was born on December 20, 1961 in Waverly, NY the daughter of the late Floyd and Cora Mayo McNeal. Susan was a Veteran of the United States Navy and was employed with Wal-Mart in Elmira, NY. Susan had a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice which she obtained through Colorado University. Susan had a love of gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, camping, and living life to the fullest. Susan loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Susan is survived by her husband of 21 years, Arthur Ray Sackett, Jr. Susan is also survived by her five children and two step children: Megan Garry of Spokane, WA, Samantha Hill of Philadelphia, PA, Timothy Sackett of Chemung, NY, Melodee Sackett of Chemung, NY, Martin Sackett of Chemung, NY, Arthur Sackett III of Elmira, NY, and Ida Sackett, Jr. of Elmira, NY, and grandchildren, Amber, Thomas, Rebecca, and Alex. Susan is also survived by her step-mother, Jeanette McNeal of Athens, Pa, brother, Charles McNeal of Lexington, KY, and sisters Maxine (Larry) Latterman of Baldwin, NY, and Lisa (Dan) Reed of Athens, PA, as well as many nieces, nephews. Susan is predeceased by her parents Floyd McNeal and Cora Mayo McNeal as well as siblings Dennis McNeal, Carol Belcher and Marlyn McNeal. Susan will be honored with a full Military Funeral which will include her nephews Ryan Reed playing Taps and John Belcher delivering the Military Service. Calling Hours for family and friends are on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 2:00pm -4:00pm with the Funeral directly following at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made towards the cost of the funeral to: Jay E. Please join the family for a gathering of remembrance hosted by Reverend Mark Lemon at the First Methodist Church of Chemung on Main Street in Chemung, NY directly following the service.
