Obituary of Sarah Cole
Sarah A. "Sally" Cole, 96, of Sayre, PA passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at ElderWood following a brief illness.
Sarah was born February 5, 1916 on Porter Hill in the Town of Baldwin, NY, the 6th daughter of 12 girls of the late William and Flora Belle Inman Porter.
Sally was a member of the Church of the Redeemer, Sayre, PA. She attended Waverly High School, and was employed with Blue Swan during the war, riding her bicycle to work from her home in Wildwood. She then decided to become a stay at home wife and mother. With her husband, Victor, their dream became reality when they purchased a lot on Waneta Lake in 1956. They camped while building their dream cottage, named "The Cole Bin". This became and has remained the family meeting place of 4 generations for all special occasions, celebrations, and where Sally loved spending her summers. She was an avid bowler most of her life, bowling at the first alley on Lockhart St., Sayre to Waverly Bowling Center. When her husband was being transferred on the LVRR, she moved during the bowling season but continued to bowl by taking the Black Diamond back to Lehighton, PA, and not once did she need a sub. Sally lived at her same home for over 70 years until the time of her death. She was a member and supporter of the Sayre Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years Victor Cole in1994 and 10 sisters.
Sarah is survived by her children Elaine Ferris of Sayre, PA and Barry (Gloria) Cole of Wynnewood, PA, grandchildren Jim (Judy) Ferris, Jr., Jason Ferris, Meredith (Brad) Braverman, and Adam (Emily) Cole, great-grandchildren Ryan Cole Braverman, Kelly Ferris, Heath Ferris, and she was so looking forward to the newest Cole addition due in March, the last of the 12 sisters Edna Elbertson of Horseheads, NY, numerous nieces and nephews, including her niece Carol Roarke of Southbury, CT, and special friends Wendy Laugher of Waverly, NY and Diane Mosier of Athens, PA.
Family and friends may call Monday, January 21, 2013 from 1pm – 2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens, PA 18810, Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Rev. Glenn Mahaffey of the Church of the Redeemer officiating.
Burial with be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
