Obituary of Cecil Morningstar

Cecil W. Morningstar, 87, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Ashton Healthcare Facility following an extended period of failing health. He was born on August 30, 1925 in Laceyville, PA the son of the late John and Tessie Vanderpool Morningstar. Cecil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a former member of the Sayre Methodist Church. Cecil served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific Theatre, was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. He was employed with the IR, Athens in the Shipping Department for over 40 years, before retiring. He loved hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, and was a fan of many sports. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially of the Bodine family. Cecil was a well-loved Little League Coach, and was a life-long Sayre Redskins Football fan. He could always be seen on the sidelines wearing his Redskins Beanie. Cecil was a Lifetime Member of the Skiff Bower Post #1536 V.F.W. and served as Sergeant of Arms. He is predeceased many brothers and sisters. Cecil is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty at home, children Pamela and Donald Lane of Sheshequin, PA, Cecil, Jr. and Suanne Morningstar of Ulster, PA, and Susan and William Keir of Sheshequin, PA, grandchildren Marlene Marshall, Kristin (Andy) Wales, Julie (Ron) Hadlock, Kyle Eddy, Bryon (Marty) Morningstar, Jennifer (Jamey) Kelsall, William Keir II, Isaac (Anna) Keir, and Amy Keir, great-grandchildren Cody Marshall, Marissa Eddy, Andrew Kelsall, Nathan Wales, Delaney Marshall, Lilyanna Hadlock, Rachel Kelsall, Liam Hadlock, Delia Keir, and Keegan Keir, siblings Leona Dove of Upstate NY, Elwyn (Louise) Morningstar of Sayre, PA, and Gladys Palmer of Vestal, NY, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours or services. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
