Dorothy M. Bengtson, 98, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 following an extended illness. She was born on April 28, 1914 in Ridgeway, PA the daughter of the late Gustaf A. and Elizabeth Bengtson. Dorothy attended Ridgeway Schools and graduated from Centenial High, Ridgeway, PA. She worked at GTE in Emporium, PA in the Testing Department. Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sayre, PA and served as a Lector at the church. She is predeceased by her siblings Mildred Borg, Raymond Benson, Al Benson, and William A. Benson. Dorothy is survived by her granddaughter Kate Bengtson, grandson Erik (Cassandra) Bengtson, granddaughter Dana Bengtson, sister-in-law Mildred Benson, nephews Garth Benson, Bill Benson, and Brant Benson, nieces Betina Benson, Janita (Fred) Hemke, Kirsten (Chuck) Borg, Linda Carpenter, and Sandra (John) Ahearn, several great- nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, and special friend Donna (Harold) Smith. A Graveside Service will be held on March 1, 2013 at 2pm at Tioga Point Cemetery, 803 North Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Alexandria Liepe from St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Athens, PA. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
