Francis Truman "Fran" Johnston, 70, Athens, PA passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at home. He was born on March 12, 1942 in Sayre, PA the son the late Earl and Ethel Liddiard Johnston. Fran was a graduate of Athens Area High School Class of 1960. After graduation, Fran joined the U.S. Navy. Upon returning home in 1964 he went to work at the Athens Ingersoll Rand, retiring in 2000 after 36 years of service. Fran was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish, hunt, trap, and boating. He kept a bee colony in his back yard. Fran never missed his coffee time at Sam’s Restaurant twice a day. He spent many happy hours photographing eagles along the river. He is predeceased by his daughter Jody Lynn Pond, 6/00, granddaughter Alesha Marie Irons, 10/86, grandson Christopher Mason Fenton, 7/89, twin great-grandsons Isiah and Justin Irons, 8/07, and his dog Homer. Fran is survived by his wife of 25 years Stephanie at home, children Kenneth and Denise Irons of Glen Burnie, MD, David and Alice Irons of Candor, NY, Gayle and John Lawrence of Lexington, NC, and Lauri Irons and Tracey Ludwig of Sayre, PA, 14 grandchildren including his sidekicks Justin Irons and Kayla Hagar, Katelyn and Jordan Roach, Nicole and Ronald Memoli, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Nancy (James) Bean of Litchfield, PA, and twin brother Fred Johnston of Athens, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 12pm – 2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Orange Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.
