Robert A. "Rod" Shaffer, Sr., 67, of Sayre, PA passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at home following a brief illness. He was born on September 20, 1945 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Thomas and Irene MacMorran Shaffer. Rod enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on tractors and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He also enjoyed doing things for other people. Rod served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a past member of the Valley V.F.W. and American Legion. He is predeceased by his brothers Donald Dunham, Thomas Shaffer, Jr., James Kilgore, and Art Lane. Robert is survived by his sons Robert A., Jr. (Myra) Shaffer of Waverly, NY, and David Shaffer of Corning, NY, grandchildren Brandon, Justin, Jake, Elizabeth, Abbie, and Matthew, siblings and in-laws Dean (Emily) Shaffer of Geneseo, NY, Doris Lane of Avon, NY, Jackie (Tony) Chilver of Elmira, NY, Marion (Bob) Manahan of New Albany, PA, Carol Benninger of Waverly, NY, and Jeanne Shaffer of TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Robert’s request there will be no calling hours or services. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
