Obituary of Edward Fitzgerald
Edward James Fitzgerald left his family and friends on March 6, 2013. We bid him farewell and "May the luck of the Irish always be with him".
Ed was adored by his wife Helen, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his loyal dog Casey. Ed was an Irishman with a cheerful and playful spirit who delighted in taking his children and grandchildren on adventures. Ed knew how to make a trip for ice cream special by singing songs and telling the most outrageous stories. Mornings were always brighter with his special song to greet everyone "Every day’s a holiday with you." Every day was certainly a holiday with him. Ed was born in Sayre to Edward Joseph and Louisa Swangler Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his siblings Anna Boyle, Francis Harris Mandarano and Norman Fitzgerald. Ed served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was active in Sayre Borough governance. Over the years, Ed was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge as well as the Jaycees.
After Ed retired he traveled and played golf as much as weather permitted. Ed enjoyed both the company of his golf partners as well as the game of golf. Travel allowed Ed and Helen to meet lots of wonderful people and to have many adventures.
His family includes: Rebecca Booth and her husband Reese of Lynchburg, VA., Denise Poll and her husband Jack of Cary, NC. , Michael Fitzgerald and his wife Claudia of Cary, NC. Grandchildren are Dana Booth, Jon Booth and his wife Crystal, Jamie LeBeau and her husband Erich, Bryce Poll, Mitchell Poll, Jameson Poll, Megan Fitzgerald, Ryan Fitzgerald and great grandchildren Reese Booth, Timothy Booth, Caitlin Booth, Abigail Booth, Claudia LeBeau and Timber LeBeau.
The family will hold a private service at a later date. The family thanks the staff of ElderWood Senior Care for the engaging and compassionate care that Ed received while a resident. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Memory unit at ElderWood Care Facility or a charity of your choosing in memory of Edward J. Fitzgerald.
