Obituary of William VanSlyke

William H. "Bill" VanSlyke, 80, of Athens, PA passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital. He was born on May 27, 1932 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Claude B. and Sally Marie Baltz VanSlyke. Bill was an Active Member of the Athens United Methodist Church. He dedicated much of his life to assisting the elderly as an Active Member and Officer of the Pennsylvania Health Care Association "PHCA". Bill was a member of the Kirby Band, was involved in the Valley Players Theatre Group, and prior to the age of 18 he attained the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. He is predeceased by his wife Ann VanSlyke, daughter Susan Thorn, and granddaughter Erin Elizabeth Thorn. William is survived by his daughter Elizabeth (Thomas) Kavitski of Media, PA, grandchildren Jacob (Bridget) Kavitski of Media, PA, Sarah Kavitski (fiancé Michael Mirabello) of West Hartford, CT, great-grandchildren Benjamin and Samuel Kavitski of Media, PA, and son-in-law Rick Thorn and his children Annie and Alex of Athens, PA. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 1pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 2pm with the Rev. Andrew Weidner from the Athens United Methodist Church officiating.
