John F. Smith, 67, of Athens, PA passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at home following a brief illness. He was born on September 17, 1945 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Fred P. and Mary E. Mangialardo Smith. John worked for Lehigh Valley Railroad, Mangialardo’s Restaurant, retiring in 2007, and Williams Auto Group. John was a member and past President of the Sons of Italy Sayre Roma Madre Lodge #1342, a member of the Ball-Skerpon Post #773, and a lifetime member of the Sayre Elks Lodge #1148. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and spending summers at Seneca Lake. John is survived by his brother Francis Smith and companion Susan Bennett of Sayre, PA, and his loving partner Sara Meisner of Athens, PA. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 5pm – 8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 9:30am at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA with the Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic officiating.
