Veronica N. Shaffer, 66, of Waverly, NY, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 4, 2013 following an extended illness She was born May 13, 1946 in Sayre, PA the daughter of the late Wilbur and Naomi Frisbie Sharpsteen. Veronica was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed internet games, shopping, watching NASCAR and Veronica was an avid Tony Stewart fan. She is predeceased by first husband Charles Frisbie, brother Eugene Sharpsteen, mother-in-law Euleta Shaffer, and second husband Douglas Shaffer, Sr. Veronica is survived by her children Cheryl and David DeKay of Sayre, PA, Penny Laurey of Elmira, NY, Kimberly Place of Waverly, NY, and Douglas Shaffer, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren Stacey and Lindsey Bennett of Towanda, PA, Christopher and Sarah DeKay of Sayre, PA, David DeKay, Jr. of Endicott, NY, Kesha DeKay of Sayre, PA, McKaylah DeKay of Sayre, PA, Valerie Farr of Waverly, NY, Brittanie Farr and Michael Merrill of Waverly, NY, Charles Wolcott, and Tyrone Clark of Elmira, NY, 10 great-grandchildren, siblings and in-laws Wilbur and Mary Ellen Sharpsteen of Waverly, NY, Darlene and Russell Robinson of Bath, NY, Beverly and William Ellison of Halsey Valley, NY, Grace and Richard Miller of Owego, NY, Audrey LaFritz of Chemung, NY, and Gilbert and Cathy Sharpsteen of Chemung, NY, aunt and uncle Joyce and John Clark of Chemung, NY and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 2pm – 4pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 1pm at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating from Waverly United Methodist Church.
