Obituary of John Danko

John E. Danko, Sr., 85, of Canton, PA, formerly of Sayre, PA passed away on Friday, April 13, 2013 at the Sherwood Personal Care Home, Canton, PA. He was born on January 26, 1928 in Wapwallopen, PA, the son of the late Joseph E. and Guida M. Naugle Danko. John attended Neskopeck High School, graduating in 1945. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He worked at I.B.M. in Owego, NY as a Technician, retiring in 1986. John is a member of the V.F.W. Skiff Bower Post #1536 Sayre, member of the Blue Lodge #541 Nanticoke, PA and attained 32º Mason, and a member of the Consistory Bloomsburg, PA. He is predeceased by his wife Ruth in 1996, son John, Jr. in 1999, and brother Andrew. John is survived by his children Richard E. and Mary K. Danko of Chesapeake, VA and Dr. Duane A. and Diane Danko of Canton, PA, grandchildren Melissa and Stephanie Danko of Chesapeake, VA, Niel and Jamie Danko of Glide, OR, Erik and Abby Danko of Brandon, SD, and Carl and Rachel Danko of Richlands, NC, great-grandchildren Claire and Colby Danko of Glide, OR, and Mason and Liam Danko of Brandon, SD, and his aunt Eleanor Danko of Pond Hill, PA. Friends and family may call on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 1pm to 2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 2pm with the Rev. Ronald Bly from the LeRoy Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. Memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to the: Canton Green Free Library, 41 Center Street, Canton, PA 17724.
