Edwin "Carl" Shipman, 92, of Waverly, NY went to be with his Lord and his beloved wife Evelyn on Saturday, April 13, 2013. He was born August 24, 1920 in Waverly, NY to the late Warren L. and Coral Wright Shipman. Carl was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. Carl married the love of his life, Evelyn Dean, on May 10, 1941, and on May 10, 2012 they celebrated 71 years of marriage. He was employed for Stroehman’s Bakery as a Driver/Mechanic for 22 years, retiring in 1982. He also worked for W.S. &A Bus Co. as a Driver/Mechanic from 1941-1960. He was a John Deere enthusiast and enjoyed restoring antique tractors. Carl was a member of Chemung Valley Old Timers, New York Steam Engine Association, and the Tioga County Antique Engines and Tractors. Carl is predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn May 27, 2012, brother Russell Hoffman, sisters Thelma Nero and Hazel Rorick, and brother Walter Shipman. Carl is survived by his children Gerald and Phyllis Shipman of Waverly, NY, Linda and Ronald Tappan of Sayre, PA, and Dennis Shipman of Waverly, NY, grandchildren Jeannean Holland of Athens, PA, DeAnna Mosher of Waverly, NY, Kathy Shipman of Jersey Shore, PA, Donald Shipman of Lockwood, NY, and Joseph Shipman of Sayre, PA, great-grandchildren Kyle Holland of Spain, Travis Holland of the Philippines, Joshua Rowe of New York City, NY, Ashley Rowe of Barton, NY, Brooke Shipman of Lockwood, NY, and Logan Shipman of Lockwood, NY, special niece and husband Charlotte and Chuck Tice of Horseheads, NY, special niece Janice Russell of Willow Spring, NC, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 1pm – 3pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 3pm with the Rev. Steven Reynolds from the First Baptist Church of Waverly officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
