Obituary of Barbara Triggs
Barbara B. Triggs, 84, of Athens, PA passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at home.
She was born on April 18, 1929 in Lima, OH the daughter of the late Homer C. and Ruth M. Kreager Barton.
Barbara was an avid reader and listened to music and watched Star Wars movies to relax. She enjoyed working in her garden, especially if upset she would pull the weeds. She loved all animals, but particularly dogs and birds and gave cats the same disdain they offered to us. Barbara was the person who cried every time they played the Star Spangled Banner. She enjoyed her apple pie with cheese on to top.
Barbara was the girl that no one asked to the senior prom but was the one that two of the neatest guys ever asked her to be their wife. She was truly blessed. When God called her to become a pastor, there was a two year hesitation on her part but in the end, God won. She then could not have imagined doing anything other than what He had called her to do which was His work in the ministry.
Barbara attended Denison University, Granville, OH. She had a career at IBM as a Systems Analyst, teaching computer programming at the Community College and also owned a Computer Software Publishing Company with products sold nationwide, selling this company upon entering seminary. She graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, May of 1996. She held the position of Director of Children’s Ministry in Austin, TX for the Children’s Hospital, and Pastored the congregations in Southwestern, OK for a Southern Baptist Church, Fleming Memorial Church, Fairmont, WV, several United Churches of Christ, New England, and the First Presbyterian Church of Sayre, Sayre, PA.
She is predeceased by her first husband Howard L. White, 1960, Melvin R. Triggs, 1984, and brother Douglas Barton.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Susan (Robert) Stuhr of Boston, MA, grandson Jeffrey H. Stuhr of Norfolk, VA, sister Nancy Wise, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 5pm at the Waverly United Methodist Church, 158 Chemung Street, Waverly, NY with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield and Rev. David Larson co-officiating.
