Obituary of LauraBelle Havens
LauraBelle Havens, 90, of Athens, PA, went to meet her Lord and join her husband of 60 years on Monday, May 06, 2013. She had been a resident at the Sayre Health Care Facility for 2 years.
She was born September 25, 1922 in Morrisville, NY the daughter of the late Howard D. and Laura Spaulding Harter.
Laura was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church, and was a member of the 50 plus club for her years of membership. She was a graduate of Morrisville-Eaton Central School District, NY. She earned her Teachers Degree in Home Economics from University of the State of NY-State Teachers College at Plattsburg. She continued her education earning her Masters Degree in Home Economics from Penn State University. Laura taught at the Adams Central School, Jefferson County, NY from 1944-1948, was employed with the US Department of Agriculture as the Home Demonstration Agent for Worchester County, MD from 1950-1951, and was a substitute teacher for Athens and Sayre School Districts.
Laura was a charter member of the Penny Promenaders, charter member of the Sayre- Athens Lioness, member of the Southern Tier Wheelers, member of the Tom Jack Campers, member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #43, was a Star Point Electa, and received her 50 year pin with the organization, and was Junior Deputy of the Stella Triangle #40.
She is predeceased by her sons David and Dean Havens, brothers Eugene and Edwin Harter.
Laura is survived by her children Howard and Dawn Havens of State College, PA, Charla and Terry Keffer of Greensburg, PA, Bruce Havens of Allentown, PA, Gary and Marj Havens of Catonsville, MD, Mark and Lori Havens of Athens, PA, Beth and Anthony Maio of Syracuse, NY, grandchildren Nichelle (Mark) Strzepek, Brandon Hutzell, Dr. Jessica Keffer, PHD, Nathan (Erin) Keffer, Cedric and Kimbrey Havens, Dr. Kelsey and Christine Havens, Chris Havens, Anita (Mike) Shay, Eric (Heather) Arcesi, Bailey, Blaise, and Zachary Maio, several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, May 10, 2013 from 4pm – 6pm and Friday, May 11, 2013 from 1pm – 2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2013 at 2pm at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Weidner officiating from Athens United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery.
