Merle S. McIntire, 93, of Athens, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2013 at Sayre Health Care Facility due to complications from pneumonia. He was born on September 7, 1919 in Quimby, IA the son of the late Alvah J. and Jennie Brownmiller McIntire. Merle was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was the Owner/Operator of J.F. Hanlon, Inc. in Athens from 1954 until his retirement. Merle loved working with wood and spending time outdoors especially out in the woods. He is predeceased by his wife of 68 years Pauline McIntire, brother Kenneth McIntire, sisters Helen Zahorian, Ardith Scrivener, and Thelma Landon, granddaughter Tracey Bourdette, and brother-in-law Roger Chamberlain. Merle is survived by his children Carol and Dale Bourdette of Lake Wales, FL, Connie and Terry Cockcroft of Athens, PA, and Barbara and David Battishill of Waverly, NY, grandchildren Jeffrey Bourdette of Winter Haven, FL, Gary Lougher of Athens, PA, Toni Bloss of Springfield, VA, Paul Lougher of Sayre, PA, and Jamie Rosenberger of Athens, PA, 5 great-grandchildren, sister Velma Utter of Elmira, NY, sister-in-law Marie Chamberlain, and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 1pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the Funeral Home at 2pm with the Pastor Anne Canfield and David White co-officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
