Obituary of Ina Carroll
Ina G. Carroll, 99, of Granby, CT passed away on July 6, 2012 in her home with her loving daughter by her side.
She was born on May 31, 1913 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph Ritner Guild and Florence Adelia Havens Guild Duff and spent most of her childhood in South Waverly, PA.
Ina received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA and attended Penn State for a year while working on a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology. Her interests in education and the hearing impaired allowed Ina to touch the lives of many children throughout her career. She began her teaching career in Hartford specializing in Speech and Hearing Therapy. After marrying her husband, Robert, the two settled in Granby where she taught 2nd grade for many years. Ina retired from teaching at the age of 70 as a Speech Pathologist with the Simsbury School District.
Ina was an active member of the West Granby Methodist Church. During her leisure time, she enjoyed weaving wool, cooking, gardening, collecting antique jewelry, and she could play a mean game of Wiffle well into her 90’s.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Robert W. Carroll, a son-in-law Russell A. Fraser, three brothers Ritner, Warren and Fenton Guild, and a sister Doris Chamberlain.
Those left to treasure her memory include her daughter Lynn E. Fraser of West Hartford, CT, three grandchildren Suzanne Kelsey Shea and her husband Daniel of West Simsbury, CT, Amanda Kelsey of West Hartford, CT, and John Fraser and his wife Cari of Fairfax, VA, her five adored great-grandchildren Patrick, John, Sydney, Samantha, and Sloan, sister-in-law Patricia Guild of South Dennis, MA, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and their families.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11am at Tioga Point Cemetery, 803 North Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, Athens, PA.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
