Obituary of Edwin Bright
Edwin A. "Ed" Bright, 93, of Sayre, PA passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 peacefully at home.
He was born on November 18, 1919 in New York City, NY the son of the late Anthony and Stella Bright.
Mr. Bright served in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired as Master Sgt. from the U.S. Air Force. He worked as an import specialist with the U.S. Customs Service. He took night courses at NYU and obtained an Art Degree. He also had a free-lance career in painting. At the age of 15, he drew sketches for the famous syndicated sports columnist Floyd Gibbons which appeared in the New York Evening Journal. He was a volunteer at Robert Packer Hospital for 25 years, and a Charter Member of the Art Society in Sayre when it was first organized.
He moved to Sayre in 1975 with his wife Dorothy (Janosko), who precedes him in death. He loved the sea and was proud of his many cruises which earned him status as a four star mariner.
Also preceding him in death are his brother Joseph Bright, sister Rosanna Bright, and brother-in-law John Janosko.
Edwin is survived by a special nephew Patrick (Eileen) Janosko and children Kelley (Dave) Gabriel, Ashley and Kimberly, sister-in-law Mary Janosko, his faithful caretaker Susie and also Laurie, Amy, Robin, and Sarah Jane. With their help, Mr. Bright’s wish to pass at home was fulfilled. He is also survived by a nephew Donald Brychzchnski of Hanover, PA, special friends Charlie and Sally Glenn of Reklaw, TX, and Maria Buquero of Ft. Meyers, FL.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 6pm – 8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Avenue, Sayre, PA on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 9:30am with the Rev. Bryan Wright officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
In lieu of flowers, Ed wishes all memorials be sent to Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Road, Towanda, PA 18848.
