Obituary of Nellie Chaykosky
Nellie K. Chaykosky, 97, of Waverly, NY, passed away on August 4, 2013 at Tioga Health Care Center after an extended illness.
She was born March 30, 1916 in Olyphant, PA the daughter of the late John and Anna Schlanta Kohut.
Nellie graduated from Olyphant High School in the Class of 1935. She worked at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre for 16 years and Tioga General Hospital for 18 years as a Nurses’ Aide, retiring in 1984, after faithfully working for 34 years. She will be remembered by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as a loving and giving mother and grandmother. They were the love of her life and she loved them all very much. Her life interests were her children and she encouraged them all to pursue further education and all accomplished what they set out to do. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and flower arranging. She also enjoyed and watched all sports, her favorites being tennis, baseball, and football. Nellie was a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Athens, PA.
She is predeceased by her husband Walter, two brothers John and Harry Kohut, and sister and brother-in-law Mary and John Yesalavich.
Nellie is survived by her three loving children and their spouses Eugene and Joan Chaykosky of Waverly, NY, Walter and Marcella Chaykosky of Athens, PA, and Patricia and Hank Ohlhoff of Franklin Lakes, NJ, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Anna Chaykosky and family from Jermyn, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 10am – 12pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 12:30pm at St. James Catholic Church, 503 Clark Street, Waverly, NY with the Rev. William Moorby officiating.
