Alberta G. Simpson, 97, of Waverly, NY passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital following an extended illness. She was born on April 23, 1916 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Clinton and Ada Huff Gerould. Alberta graduated from Rome High School in 1932 and graduated from the Maison De Paris Beauty College in Philadelphia. She was a beautician for 70 years, operating the Golelin Sham Beauty Shop in Binghamton, NY for 2 years, she then owned and operated the Alberta Beauty Shop in Ulster for 15 years and the Alberta Simpson Beauty Shop in Athens, PA for 53 years. She received the Key to the City of Athens, PA on July 5, 1997 in recognition of 59 years of service to the community from 1937-1999.She married her husband Thomas Simpson on June 29, 1945 and they celebrated their 5oth anniversary prior to his passing in 1995. Alberta attended the North Waverly Chapel, Waverly, NY for over 30 years and the Word of life Bible Camp each summer for 29 years. She was a Counselor in the Billy Graham Crusade. She is predeceased by her husband Thomas Simpson and son Bernard Francis Simpson on June 10, 1953. Alberta is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Daniel W. and Judy Cole Simpson of Sayre, PA, granddaughters Liza Simpson Petrocco of Sayre, PA and Nicole Simpson of Athens, PA, great-grandchildren Dominic Thomas Petrocco and Kaden Michael Willard Petrocco of Sayre, PA, and Treyvon Simpson Bailey of Athens, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 12pm – 1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm with the Rev. William Wells officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
