Betty (Keener) Shay Welch., 89, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Sayre Health Care Center. She was born on March 1, 1924 in Sayre, PA to the late Daniel and Alice (Evans) Keener. Betty was a lifelong member of the Sayre Christian Church. She was a machinist at the Ingersoll Rand, until her retirement in 1986. She adored her granddaughters and loved every moment of being their grandma. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends. You could always stop at ther house on Clinton Street for a good cup of coffee. She loved to travel and was very social. She hated to miss out on a good time. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Jack N. Shay and second husband Gerald Welch. Brothers Donald Keener and Lawrence Keener, and sisters Ruth Hoagland and Janice Hurd. Betty is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Patty and Peter Medina of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Pam and Greg Hayton of Sayre, and Jackie and Mike Peet of Sayre. Her grandchildren Danille and Bryan Baughman, Amy Hayton, Erica Hayton, and Allie Peet. Several nieces, nephews, and special friends. Friends and family may call on September 9, 2013 from 6pm-7pm at the Sayre Christian Church, 427 South Keystone Ave., Sayre, PA. Funeral Services will follow with the Rev. Kevin Arensman officiating. A private burial will be held in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
