Obituary of James Coombs

Many hearts were broken, On that day not long ago. You didn’t want to leave us, But our Jesus took you home. We don’t know what to do, We don’t know where to turn. Please guide us, my sweet love, So we know what to do. James A. "Jim" Coombs, 54, of Athens, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital. He was born on June 9, 1959 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Harold Z. and Pauline A. Lynch Coombs. Jim was a Certified ASE Master GM, Nissan, and Kia Technician. He was very well-known and respected for his knowledge and experience in diagnosing and repairing automobiles. Jim worked at Ingersoll Rand from 1979-1987, he then went to work as a Mechanic for the Joe Mint Dealership in Sayre and continued working for two new additional owners to that facility, Royal Group and Williams Auto Group. Jim was a local standout athlete while attending Athens Area Schools, excelling in football and wrestling. In his junior year of high school, he was ranked 5th in the state in wrestling. He was predicted to win states in his senior year but unfortunately a severe motorcycle accident ended that dream. However, he came back for that lost senior year, and again played football and wrestled, graduating in 1978. He was well-loved for his very dry, sarcastic sense of humor, and his loyalty to his family and friends was never in doubt. He was an AVID Penn State, NY Yankees, and NY Jets fan. Two of the proudest moments of his life were being able to walk his beautiful daughter Ashley down the aisle to marry the love of her life, Tom Byrne and being able to see his first granddaughter, Elexia Rae Sweet enter this world and she became "the light of his life" as he called her. The bright spots in Jim’s life was being able to spend time with Elexia whether cuddling her to sleep or riding her on his lawn mower. When Finn, his grandpuppy, was around you always knew that Jim had treats in his pocket and a smile on his face. He is predeceased by his brother and best friend, Harold V. Coombs, June 19, 2003, father-in-law Francis Williams, Sept. 26, 2013, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jim leaves behind mournfully his wife of 33 years, Vikki at home, his two beautiful daughters Ashley Ann (Tom) Byrne of Athens, PA and Emily Rae Coombs (Brandon Sweet) of Athens, PA and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Elexia Rae Sweet. He also leaves his saddened sisters Joan (John) Kehoe of Port Charlotte, FL, and Mary McClellan of Athens, PA, mother-in-law Patricia Williams of Athens, PA, sisters-in-law Judi Coombs of Athens, PA and Marilu (Tiger) White of Waverly, NY, brothers-in-law John Allen of Athens, PA and Dan (Lori) Allen of Gillett, PA. He will also leave several beloved nieces and nephews Tyler Allen, P.W. Lane, Bryan Lane, Richard Lane, Brandon Lane, Brian Kehoe, Michael Kehoe, Jessika Coombs , Jefferson Coombs, Chris McClellan, Scott McClellan, Carrie Northrup, and their families. He will be missed by numerous co-workers, friends, and customers, and all those who knew and loved him. Jim will also be missed sadly by his grandpuppy, Finn. Friends and family may call on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 6pm – 8pm and Friday, October 11, 2013 from 10am – 11am at the Jay E.
