Obituary of Blanche Whitbeck

Blanche A. Whitbeck, 78, of Sayre, PA passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre following an extended illness. She was born on April 18, 1935 in Shares Hill, PA the daughter of the late Harry and Gustava Bickham Buck. Blanche worked as a cook at the Heritage Nursing Home in Athens for many years. She was a member of the East Smithfield Federated Church. Blanche enjoyed collecting figurines of dogs, cats, cookie jars, carousels and was a doll collector. She loved playing cards, and took pleasure in cooking and baking for her family and friends. She loved spending time outdoors, especially picking berries, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, and taking care of her beloved animals. She is predeceased by her first husband Kenneth Whitbeck, sisters Gladys Groover and Agnes Bowers, brothers Henry Buck and John Buck, and nephew Kelton Brown. Blanche is survived by her companion of 20 years Gene Tracy, sisters Lillian Shay of Athens, PA, Charlotte Vincent of Millerton, PA, and Hazel Carle of Sayre, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 12pm-1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the Funeral Home at 1pm with the Rev. Stan Gill from the East Smithfield Federated Church officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. Memorial donations may be made in Blanche’s memory to the: Animal shelter of your choice.
