Bettina L. Matthews, 81 of Athens, PA went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at home. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 2, 1932. Bettina loved spending time with her family and friends. She attended the Ulster United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed doing ceramics and belonged to the local quilt club. She volunteered for fundraising at the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Company. Bettina is predeceased by her husband Ernest C. Matthews in 2009 and son John Matthews. Bettina is survived by her children Mark and Connie Matthews, Eric and Sarah Matthews, and James and Vicki Matthews, daughter-in-law Elaine and Ron Shengulette, grandchildren Beth and David Stablewski, Patrick and Katherine Matthews, Jared Matthews, Joshua Matthews, Caleb and Sarah Matthews, Cadie and Nicholas Anderson, Ethan Matthews, Jeremy Matthews and Tanya Dube, and James and Jennifer Matthews, great-grandchildren Ava and Aubrey Stablewski, and Kaelynn and Aidan Matthews, and Gavin Matthews. Friends and family may call on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 1pm to 2:30pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Funeral Services will follow at the Funeral Home at 2:30pm with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Orange Hill Cemetery, Athens, PA.
