Obituary of Joseph Murphy

Joseph "Joe" F. Murphy, 86, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013 at home. He was born on September 19, 1927 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Francis J. and Josephine Cahill Murphy. Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a former member of St. John’s Church, South Waverly. He owned a farm in Athens Twp. for 50 years before retiring. He worked at P & C for 14 years, Stateline Auto for many years, and was very well known for his years of service at the Athens Twp. Recycling Center. Joe loved being around all children and horses. He is predeceased by his brother Donald Murphy, sisters Beatrice Murphy and Mildred Schreck. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Mary Jane at home, children Rosemary E. Abrams of Athens, PA and her former spouse Louis Carlin, George F. and Shari Murphy of Venice, FL, grandchildren Joshua Murphy, Mykala Abrams, Karrigan Abrams, Shonda Hill, Shawn Struble, Donald Struble, Nicholas Murphy, great-grandchildren Lexus Bogert, Levi Bogert, Elijah Struble, Caleb Struble, and Jayden Struble, sister and her husband Theresa and Maynard Beckman of Plano, TX, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and devoted friends the Browns’ and Elsbrees’. Friends and family may call on Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 6pm-8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30am at Church of the Epiphany, 304 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Waverly, NY, at the convenience of the family.
