Obituary of Estelle Loushay

ESTELLE ("Cookie") PROVO LOUSHAY, Died peacefully on January 2, 2014 at Troy Hospital, Troy, Pennsylvania. Estelle was born July 4, 1914 in Stewart, Tennessee, youngest daughter of William C. and Sally Cole Provo. She was a graduate of Erin Academy, Erin, Tennessee. She received her RN from Clarksville General Hospital School of Nursing, affiliated with Nashville General Hospital of Vanderbilt University. Married to J. Clayton Loushay in the Chapel of Camp Campbell (now Fort Campell), Kentucky on February 14, 1943. They were married 69 years until his death on September 25, 2012. She lived in Athens, Pennsylvania from 1945 to 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Clayton Loushay, her parents William C. and Sally Cole Provo, siblings Mayme Provo, Crawford Provo, Orman Provo, Lester Provo, Lura Branden, Marvin Provo, Lloyd Provo and Pearl Mobley. She is survived by a sister-in-law Anne Provo of Clarksville, Tennessee, several nieces and nephews, daughter Nancy (Rev. Dr. John F.) Helgeson of Mattoon, Illinois; son Clayton L. (Marian Carberry) Loushay of Woodbridge, Virginia; granddaughters Rev. Rachel Helgeson (Christopher Roode) of Dallas, Texas, Sarah Helgeson (Shawn Holmes) of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, and Captain Noelle Helgeson of Albany, New York and currently serving in Kuwait; grandson Charles (Gisela) Sturzenegger of Woodbridge, Virginia and great-grandsons, Zayne and Declan Holmes of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Athens Presbyterian Church for 67 years, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years, and served as a deacon. Estelle enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Estelle was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. A private family service will be held at the Lowery Funeral Home at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to either the Athens Presbyterian Church, 622 South Main Street, Athens, PA 18810 or the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, 555 Gettysburg Pike, Suite A300, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
