Robert E. Cobb, 90, of Athens, PA passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at Highlands Care Center, LaPorte, PA following an extended illness. He was born April 2, 1921 in Beach Grove, PA the son of the late Olin David and Edna Lenora Stevens Cobb. Robert was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sayre. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII with the 158th Army Airways Communication System Squadron in India and China (Burma), receiving the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star and WWII Victory Medal. Robert enjoyed volunteering as an Assistant Scout Master with Troop 19 at St. John Lutheran Church and woodworking. He worked as a Machinist with Paxar for many years retiring in 1977. He was a Life Member of Disabled Veterans, Towanda, PA, V.F.W., Post #1536, Sayre, PA, and American Legion Post #0534, Wyalusing, PA. He is predeceased by his brothers Glen and wife Della, Lewis and wife Dorothy, Carl, and Donald, sisters Mary and husband Harold McLean, Helen and husband Thomas Letteer, Gladys and husband Paul Keeney, Mabel and husband Kenneth Wilson, Eleanor and husband Les Dunbar, Esther and husband Marvin Wolbach, and brother-in-law Richard Searfoss. Robert is survived by his wife 66 years in May Ruth A. Cobb at home, son Elwood Ray Cobb and wife Patricia Lee Burdick-Cobb, sister Joyce Searfoss, sister-in-law Fern Cobb, grandchildren John (Rex), Mary, Melissa, Jeremy Saxer, and Linsey (Brad) Boutilier, great-grandchildren Katie, Michael, Gabriel, Shawna, Latisha, Kaylee, Sabastian, Danielle, Stefan, Charles, and Henry, several great-great-grandchidlren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Graveside Service will be held on April 28, 2012 at 11AM at Beaver Meadows Cemetery, Laceyville, PA. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Burial will be in Beaver Meadows Cemetery, Laceyville, PA.
