Ruth Ann Schlieder Jenney, 75, of Milan, PA, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at home surrounded by her family after her courageous battle with cancer. Born January 17, 1938 at home near Catawissa, PA to the late William and Anna Hufnagle Schlieder. Ruth Ann was a graduate of Roaring Creek Valley High School and Mansfield State College and with continuing education obtained her Masters’ Degree in Elementary Education. She was employed with Sayre School District for 34 years, retiring in 1994. She was an avid quilt designer and was a founding member of Friends of Thread Shed and former member of Endless Mountains Quilt Guild. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and photography, and had many other talents and loved the challenge of them all. She married LaRue Jenney at the Kulp United Methodist Church on June 1, 1958 and recently celebrated their 55th anniversary. Ruth Ann was a very optimistic, determined, talented, and loving person with strong and amazing family values. She had very strong ties to her family, friends, and community. She was a member of the VFW Post #1536 auxiliary. She was predeceased by her son James LaRue Jenney, mother Anna Hufnagle Schlieder, father William Schlieder, brother Earl Schlieder, stepmother Hazel Schlieder, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Homer R. and Frances Jenney. Ruth Ann is survived by her husband of 55 years LaRue at home, her children Rose Marie Jenney and Phil Hurlburt of Milan, PA and Melissa and James Drake of Cincinnatus, NY, grandsons Shawn Flynn and Bradley Kizale, brother David and wife Sally Schlieder of Selinsgrove, PA, nieces Kelly Schlieder and Jackie Schlieder, nephew Christian Schlieder, several cousins and a several very special friends including Mary Geffert who was a part of her extended family. Friends and family may call on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 1pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 2pm at the funeral home with Chaplain Jeffrey Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, East Smithfield, PA.
