Obituary of Joanne Fairchild

JoAnne M. Fairchild, 75, of Athens, PA passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at home following an extended illness with her loved ones by her side. She was born on November 26, 1938 in Overton Twp., PA, the daughter of the late Mervin and Calista Merrill Morris. JoAnne was a 1956 graduate of Athens High School. She was a member of the Athens First Presbyterian Church where she served as a past Deacon. She participated in the Prison Ministry and was very active in fund raising. JoAnne was well known as a caring Home Health Aide. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She is predeceased by her husband of 44 years Walter R. Fairchild, brothers Duane Morris and Jim Morris. JoAnne is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Nancy Fairchild of Erin, NY, step-daughter Sheri Weinstein of Binghamton, NY, grandchildren Haley Wilson, Dakota Strong, Michael Strong, Shannon Jones, CJ Senn, and Kyle Lightbody, sisters Evelyn Jones of Towanda, PA, Alma Randall of Forty Fort, PA, and Yvonne Finley of Lake City, FL, brother Cyril Morris of Sayre, PA, special niece Nancy Fessenden, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Athens First Presbyterian Church, 622 ½ South Main Street, Athens, PA. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA. Memorial donations may be made in JoAnne’s memory to Athens First Presbyterian Church, 622 ½ South Main Street, Athens, PA 18810.
