Obituary of Dorothy Severn

Dorothy J. Severn, 86, of Sayre, PA passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at ElderWood, Waverly, NY. She was born on January 27, 1928 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late H.J. and Hazel Swartwood Knouse. Dorothy graduated from Athens High School and was retired from Commonwealth Bank & Trust (First Citizens Bank). She married Robert H. Severn on September 19, 1947, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1998. She was a founding member and very involved in the Sayre Historical Society, and was one of the founding members of the original Bradford County Chapter of the PA Association of Retarded Citizens during the 1970’s. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Severn, son Tom Severn, brothers Donald Knouse and Desmond Knouse, son-in-law Claude N. Palmer, and mother and father-in-law Robert and Ollie Graves, brother and sister-in-law Don and Marion Loveland, and sister-in-law Peggy Coombs. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Mary Lou Palmer of Waverly, NY, sons Gary Severn of Sayre, PA and Randy Severn of Sayre, PA, grandchildren Maryanne Geiss of Waverly, NY and Scott and Penney Geiss of East Smithfield, PA, great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Emily Geiss, sister-in-law Janet Knouse of Dover, DE, sister-in-law and her spouse Dawn and Joseph Muller of Tioga Center, NY, brother-in-law and his spouse Doug and Maybell Graves of Tioga Center, NY, dear cousins Betty Kirtley of Waverly, NY, Nancy Swartwood of Milan, PA, Joan Nolan of Milan, PA, and Bobbe Besecker of Athens, PA, several nieces, nephews, and her cat Piglet. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 2pm-4pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the Funeral Home at 4pm with the Rev. Linda L. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
