Obituary of Alice Boston
On April 5, 2014, Alice Marie (Fountain) Boston of Sayre, PA passed away peacefully after a brief illness.
Born in Prospect Park, PA on September 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel M. (Hewes) Fountain.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband John F. Boston, granddaughter Amy Brangan, sisters Miriam Seltzer and Dorothy Sigler, brother William, and daughter-in-law Cheryl Boston.
Alice is survived by her six children J. Ronald (Mary) Boston of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Diane (Tom) Ginalski of Groton, NY, Donna (Othar) Peel of Sayre, PA, David (Gale) Boston of Tampa, FL, Richard Boston of Atlanta, GA, and Dennis (Sandy) Boston of Huntley, IL, 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, special nephew John VanHorn and his son David VanHorn of Tucson, AZ, several nephews, special niece Dottie Ann Fetter of New Holland, PA, and dear friends Robert Hill and Natalie Morris.
Alice graduated from Prospect Park High School in 1939 and remained an active lifelong member of the Alumni Association. She worked as Manager/Sales Clerk at the Park Bakery for 27 years, retiring in 1983. Alice was a faithful member of Sayre Presbyterian Church, having served as Deacon and Elder for many years, taught Sunday School to children and adults, and led a Women’s Bible Study for over 30 years.
Alice was passionate about music, serving as a member, Moderator and Secretary of the Church Choir for over 40 years; she was also a former Valley Chorus member. Her other interests included writing poetry, birds and nature, and she was an accomplished gardener.
Above all, Alice was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Family was most precious to her.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 2pm-3pm at the former First Presbyterian Church of Sayre, 203 S. Elmer Avenue, Sayre, PA. A Memorial Service will follow at the Church at 3pm with Chuck Carver officiating. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
