I’m a total stranger to you --- someone that was touched and re-touched on reading again for the 4th time ‘Sea Island Yankee’--even to try and visit the Lawton plantation area on James island ---I only know him as the 10 yr old boy Clyde --and privileged to see the world of Charleston thru his eyes---i very much wanted to write to him and let him know what a kindred spirit so many of us readers share with what he experienced ----i’m even surprised to find how unbelievably sad I feel at his passing---- without getting to tell him that Guess I just wanted to tell him ‘thank you for sharing your life' Larry

My deepest condolences to the family of a Great Man. Dr. Bresee counseled me when I was leaving High School in the end of my Junior year. I remember his words to this day, and they motivated me to achieve the thing I was fortunate enough to get. I last saw him at a reunion for my class about 10 years ago, and he remembered me. In the list of who inspired my life Dr. Clyde Bresee stands in the forefront. God Bless the family in this loss.

My sincere condolences go to the family on the loss of Dr. Bresee. It was my privilege to have known Clyde as a student and a friend. He was a thorough Christian gentleman, who had an abiding interest in and a love for mankind. Little more can be asked of any human. We are all richer for having known him.

Having spent my childhood through young adulthood living 5 houses away from Dr. and Mrs. Bresee (at 708 North Main Street) I will say that both of them made a positive impact on my life. Positive role models can make an enormous difference in a young person's life and Dr. and Mrs Bresee definitely made a difference in mine and I'm sure countless others. My sincere condolences to Dr. Bresee's family --- The world has lost a wonderful person but Dr. Bresee lives on in all the people he has helped along the way. Sincerely Larry Allis

As a student who knew Dr. Bresee while at Athens High School, I recognized his patience and genuine concern for his students and his love of the school. I knew him to be a kind, gentle, and understanding man. I have thought of him many times over the years, hoping he was doing well. From knowing him the brief time of high school, I knew him to be a unique, caring, and brilliant person. I am saddened by his passing and offer condolences to his whole family. God Bless. Doug Sewell

To Cathrine, Jerome, and their families, and close friends of Clyde Bresee, I offer my profound condolences on his loss and my most sincere wish for life-long happiness as you recall his warmth, good humor, sharp intellect, and his sense of ethics and justice. It can truly be said of him that he left the world a better place than he found it. His was a life that counted, and his influence on my life forever changed it for the better. To the good Doctor himself, I say this: "Your counsel was always sound, your interest genuine, and your recommendations both sincere and uniquely appropriate. Your role in my life helped me replace pessimism with optomism, and helped me see, not life's problems, but life's possibilities. You put my feet on the road to success, and the quality of life I enjoy now is due to the ecouragement and direction you provided at Athens High School. I am nearly seventy now, but I recall your kindness every day. I do not think it would be an overstatement to say, in many ways, you saved my life. Thank you for being there. God's speed, Clyde."

Dear Jerome and Cathy, Sorry I won't be able to attend your father's funeral services. He was a wonderful man, educator, counselor, colleague and friend. He certainly left his mark on this school and community. He also left two wonderful additions to our world with you two "kids". I will think of him and you often. Enjoy life and be well; also be as productive as your two wonderful parents. Sincerely, Ken Gregory

Dr. Bressee was the best teacher I ever had. He was patient and he even made Shakespear enjoyable. After I was married I was hen associated with he and Mrs. Bressee in the church and worked alongside him with the "Bridge". A wonderful man and I will always count myself fortunate to have known him. I am sorry for your loss.
