Alfred W. Smith, 93, of Sayre, PA passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at home. He was born August 23, 1918 in Pawtucket, RI, the son of the late Cecil and Lena Smith. Alfred married M. Louise Lynch in 1950 at the Church of the Epiphany and remained an active member at the church. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Alfred was a Plant Engineer for the Ingersoll Rand, Athens, PA, retiring in 1994 after 38 years. He was a member of the Sayre L.P.O.E. Lodge #1148 and Skiff Bower Post #1536 V.F.W. He is predeceased by his sister Ruth Morrison. Alfred is survived by his wife of 61 years M. Louise Smith at home, children Thomas A. Smith of West Palm Beach, FL, Evelyn Lantz of Sayre, PA, Robert Smith of West Palm Beach, FL, Teresa Jones of Sayre, PA, and Steven Smith of Sayre, PA, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sister Louise Farwell, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 9:30am at the Church of the Epiphany with Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic officiating. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA. Burial will be in the Epiphany Cemetery.
