Obituary of Jack B. Knouse
Jack Bruce Knouse, formerly from Sayre, passed away June 2, 2014 at the Rockhill Mennonite Community in Sellersville, PA. Born in Benton, PA on April 25, 1924, he was the son of Doyle and Nora Knouse.
Jack graduated in 1942 from Athens High School. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. Upon graduation, Jack enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served in the Troop Carrier Command in World War II. After the war, Jack attended Bucknell University, graduating in 1949.
He was employed by Ingersoll âRand in Athens until his retirement in 1977. Jack enjoyed the outdoors and achieved a lifetime Master rating with the NRA in small bore rifle shooting.
Jack was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sayre, serving on the church council and as financial secretary.
He was a kind, gentle man who enjoyed traveling and volunteered his time graciously to Meals on Wheels, where he served on the board of directors.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Betty (Lehman), daughter Jan Kolesar (David) of Brookline, NH, son John (Maureen) of Perkasie, PA, grandchildren Hannah and Ross Kolesar and Ryan, Allison, and Brendan Knouse. He is also survived by brother-in-law George Lehman of Standing Stone, PA, and sister-in-law Janet Knouse of Dover, DE.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 207 S. Hopkins Street in Sayre on Monday, June 9. Jack's family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 with funeral service immediately following. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
