Obituary of Jean VanAlstine
Jean VanAlstine, 91, of Smithfield Twp., PA passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on April 1, 1923 in East Smithfield Twp., PA, the daughter of the late Levi and Emma Breece Kellogg.
Jean was employed as a Caseworker for the Children’s Services in Towanda, PA, retiring in 1983 after 16 years of service. She was a lifelong resident of East Smithfield and a member of the East Smithfield United Methodist Church. She owned with her husband Erwin the Kellogg Farm in East Smithfield, and she loved farming and the animals. Jean enjoyed crocheting, reading, and crossword puzzles. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She is predeceased by her husband Erwin VanAlstine in 1995, son Mark Hale, brothers Harold, Frank, Alfred, and Ralph Kellogg, and sister Florence Kellogg.
Jean is survived by her children Sharon Collins of Burlington Twp., PA, Anne and Raymond Cole of Ulster, PA, and Julie and David Niederriter of Marble, PA, 2 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Burial will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luther’s Mills, PA.
