Delores M. Smith, 86, of Ulster, PA passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., New Hartford, NY with her family by her side. She was born on March 7, 1928 in Sayre, PA the daughter of the late Charles L. and Anna E. Champion Smith. Delores graduated from Ulster High School in May of 1946. Upon graduation, she married Robert Smith on July 27, 1946 prior to him joining the service. They celebrated 63 years of marriage prior to his passing. She was a homemaker and stay at home mom, raising her 3 children. Delores was a member of the Ulster Methodist Church and the Red Hatter Society. She enjoyed cooking, especially her famous Macaroni and Cheese, and baking, making many pies for the church events. Delores also enjoyed spending time sewing, bird watching, and traveling with her husband prior to his passing. She is predeceased by her husband Capt. Robert B. Smith on April 5, 2010. Delores is survived by her children Charles "Chip" Smith and daughter-in-law Debra Smith of Rome, NY, Connie Matthews and son-in-law Mark Matthews of N. Ridgeville, OH, and Robert "Rob" Smith and daughter-in-law Fong Smith of Tucson, AZ, grandchildren Beth and David Stablewski of Orchard Park, NY, Heather and Todd VanEtten of Rome, NY, Patrick and Katherine Matthews of Tonawanda, NY, Jared Matthews of Tonawanda, NY, Cassie Smith of Rome, NY, Megan Smith of Tucson, AZ, and Amy Smith of Tucson, AZ, great-grandchildren Ava Stablewski of Orchard Park, NY, Aubrey Stablewski of Orchard Park, NY, Madelyn VanEtten of Rome, NY, Kaelynn Matthews of Tonawanda, NY, and Aidan Matthews of Tonawanda, NY. Friends and family may call on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 1pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 S. Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Service will follow at the Funeral Home at 2pm with the Rev. Sandy Brandt officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
