Mary G. Hausknecht 88, of Athens, PA passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 with her family by her side at Robert Packer Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on November 30, 1925 in Athens, PA the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Alice Lawler Griswold. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She graduated from Athens High School as the Valedictorian of her class in 1943. She then went to work as a Bookkeeper for Cook Accounting. In 1946 she married Ralph Hausknecht, and they began their own business. They owned and operated Ralph E. Hausknecht Plumbing and Heating with Mary handling the office duties. She enjoyed bird watching, cooking and growing her vegetable garden. Mary was a lifetime member of the Athens United Methodist Church. She is predeceased her husband Ralph Hausknecht on Jan. 16, 1993 and a brother William Griswold in 1965. Mary is survived by her children Wayne and Evelyn Hausknecht of Eaton, NY and Carl Hausknecht of Athens, PA, grandchildren Elizabeth and Jason Hashman of Athens, PA, Benjamin and Yolanda Hausknecht of Harrisonburg, VA, and Kelly and John Chripczuk of Carlisle, PA, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11am at the Athens United Methodist Church, 118 South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Andrew Weidner officiating. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
