Obituary of Lawrence E. Cain
Lawrence “Larry” E. Cain, 70, of Livingston, TX, formerly of Athens, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at St. John’s Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX following a brief illness.
He was born on February 21, 1944 in Elmira, NY the son of Howard J. and Elaine Arnold Cain.
Larry graduated from Athens High School in 1961. While at Athens, Larry was in the High School Band and Future Farmers of America. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from Nov. 1964 to Dec. 1984, received the Bronze Star and served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. . While stationed in Omaha, NB, Larry umpired the College Women’s World Series softball games. Larry graduated from the Community College of the Air Force and was employed with Colt International as a Staff Meteorologist, retiring in March of 2005. Besides baseball, Larry loved building his “Ponderosa and Pond” in Livingston, TX. He often stated, “It made him feel like a kid again with the tractor and all.” He loved to do karaoke, hunting, fishing, cooking, watching NASCAR races, and golfing. He enjoyed amusement parks, especially the rides.
Welcoming him home to heaven was his father, Howard Jack Cain, Jr., mother and step-father Elaine Arnold Cain Searfoss and Harold R. “Dutch” Searfoss, and brothers Jack J. Cain and James L. Cain.
Larry is survived by his wife Margaret I. Cobb Dykstra Cain at home, son Shane L. D. Cain of Houston, TX, stepsons and their wives Marcus and Kim Dykstra of Houston, TX, Kyle and Ginger Dykstra of Shepard, tX, three very special grandchildren Torri Jackson, serving in the U.S. Navy, Gracie Dykstra, and Hayden Dykstra, brothers and their wives Jerry and Nancy Cain of Sayre, PA and Tim and Jean Cain of Olivia, NC, sister and her husband Mona and Ray Rolls of Athens, PA, sister Deb Searfoss of Barton, NY, sister-in-law Marie Cain of San Antonio, TX, and several special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. at the convenience of the family.
