Dr. Henry T. “Doc” Shenfield, 67, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at home. He was born on December 8, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Saul and Zalma Greenberg Shenfield. Henry graduated from New London High School in CT. He then attended and graduated from RPI with a Degree in Chemistry. After graduation, he attended the University of Maryland for Medicine. Upon completion of his studies, he attended the University of Buffalo majoring in Internal Medicine, where he met his wife the former Nancy Weil. Dr. Shenfield enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Surgeon and was stationed in Germany. After his return from the Air Force, he continued his internship at the University of Buffalo, graduating with his Doctorate in Dermatology. Dr. Shenfield and his family then moved to the Valley area, where he became a physician in the Dermatology Department at Guthrie Clinic, Sayre. He currently was a volunteer teacher in the Dermatology Department at the Guthrie. Even after moving to the Valley area, he continue to attend and support RPI Hockey, holding season tickets. He enjoyed gardening, had a passion for garlic and gourmet cooking, and watching baseball; he spent many years umpiring for Little League, He also enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, and trivia. He was an avid movie goer and supporter of the Sayre Theater. Dr. Shenfield was a loving husband, father, and devoted grandfather. He especially loved spending time at the lake with his family. He was member of Habitat for Humanity, and was a board member for Penn York Opportunities for the Handicapped, INC. He is predeceased by his favorite uncle David Greenberg. Dr. Shenfield is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, sons Michael (Daci), John (Angie), and Stephen, a beloved grandchild, brother Seth (Marie) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 4pm-7pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services celebrating Dr. Shenfield’s life will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 11am at the Church of Redeemer, 201 South Wilbur Avenue, Sayre, PA with Rev. Glenn Mahaffey officiating. A Private Burial will be held at the Erwin Townsend Cemetery, Painted Post, NY with the Rabbi Miram Biatch officiating.
