Fred D. Miller, 76, of Athens, PA, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at home with his family by his side following an extended illness. He was born on March 27, 1938 in Tunkhannock, PA, the son of the late Bruce F. and Rose C. Sheffler Miller. Fred was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving on the USS Saratoga. He was a Supervisor for Electro Mechanical, Sayre for years until the closing of the business. He worked as a Detailer for Barnes Chrysler-Plymouth and as a Delivery Driver for Bud Loomis Beer Distributor, prior to retiring. He was an avid gun collector, and he enjoyed spending time at Alexander's Gun Shop. Fred was an avid Phillies fan, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and followed NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. He is predeceased by his daughter Ria Miller in 2009, uncle and best friend Bryce Sheffler, Sr. and his wife Pat Sheffler, nephew John Simmons, mother-in-law Doris VanNoy, and brother-in-law Art Price. Fred is survived by his wife of 51 years Sharon VanNoy Miller at home, children Lois Miller-Woodruff and David Woodruff of Wysox, PA, Staff Sgt. Fred and Karen Miller of White Haven, PA, and Brookes Miller and Brett Mason of Pittsburgh, PA, grandchildren Rob and Morgan Miller, Lacey Miller-Vanderpool and Larry Vanderpool, Beth Marie Miller, Patrick Woodruff, Brayden Mason, Beckett Mason, and Bryce Mason, great-grandchildren Lolah Jone' Vanderpool, Peyton Miller, and Cason Miller, sister Carolyn Mabel Price of Athens, PA, brother and sister-in-law Donald "Decker" and Linda Brown of Caledonia, NY and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 4pm-6pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services celebrating Fred's life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 6pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
